I've disabled the app through adb and now I'm able to pick my choice of file managers - which allowed me to easily switch wallpapers now. However, the Shield defaults to the built-in Files () manager instead and there's no way to clear it. Looks promising! There is a small bug when (Edit 2) selecting the wallpaper but it can be worked around by using the Shield Remote app and the Touchpad feature which will then allow you to mouse around. I've paired this with Launcher Manager (Edit 2) which automates Method 2 in the gitlab link above. So far, it's extremely easy to setup and similar to one of the Leanback (Fire) options.
